The real (best) reason to build your personal brand
A lot of times we hear the phrase "personal branding" and feel overwhelmed or intimidated. Or we don’t really get what, exactly, it means. Or how to do it. Or it feels like something other people should do… We wonder why anyone would care about OUR personal brand, what would we say anyway… Maybe we'll get to it eventually.
But that's overlooking what’s really in it for OURSELVES.
That feeling when the sky is the limit...
Obviously, you create a lot of opportunities as you become more visible and make more connections. And of course, others benefit from hearing what you have to say.
But I think – because my own experience has been – that a lot of the magic actually happens *behind the scenes* Because in order to figure out how you want to put yourself out there, you need to get some clarity on who “yourself” is. (Even if what you’re putting out there, at least at first, is showing your work as you figure it out.)
“That clarity is GOLD… That feeling, that excitement, that’s magic. It’s MAGNETIC.”
And that clarity is GOLD. Because it gets you excited again about what you’re doing, the kind of people you want to work with, and what you have to offer them.
And THAT feeling, that excitement, THAT’s the magic. It’s MAGNETIC.
That’s the real power of working on your brand. It’s not a buzzword. It’s energy.
It' might be that you’re just getting started. Or that you’re doing the ever-popular pivot. Or you moving from one season of life or work or both to the next. Or that you just need a fresh perspective. Or you’re trying to figure out why things feel harder than you expected.
Don’t skip working on your brand strategy. It’s not stalling. It’s like therapy for your business.
Getting clear about who you are, who you’re for and what you offer them makes you stronger in ways that show up everywhere else in your work and your life.
People have an impression of you, whether you like it or not, whether you’re AWARE of it or not. It might be good, it might be bad, it might be that they don’t remember anything about you at all. That’s still the outcome, and that’s a lot of missed opportunities if you’re not being intentional about it.
When you intentionally shape how you want to be seen, THAT’S building your personal brand. People can feel when you’ve done the work to figure out what you’re really about, and that’s powerful because it gives them a sense that they can trust you. After all, if you don’t know yourself, how could they?
Without clarity, your magnetism is clouded. When you’re clear, it’s irresistible to the right people.
